Peru Crusades   Summer 2004
3 cities, 3 crusades, thousands come to Jesus!

We want to thank all of you who have been praying for us during this trip to Peru.  We've had a powerful team up to 24 people during the 2nd week and down to 11 team members on the 3rd week.

Pucallpa

During first week in Pucallpa there was awesome worship and dancing each night of the crusade held in the outdoor soccer stadium.  Many were touched, healed and delivered as Jim Drown and Gary Oates ministered powerfully each night.  The final night of crusade the Peruvians stayed till 4:00 a.m. to pray and worship God!  After we left around midnight we were told that many were falling out on the ground with no concern for the mud from afternoon rain as they felt His presence and just wanted more!

We had lunch each day at Refuge of Hope school for the handicapped where Victor Izquierdo shared the vision God gave him years earlier and all the miracles He had performed in bringing each phase about -- truly miraculous and very touching!

Lima

Upon our return to Lima most of the team travelled in our bus to the outskirts of Lima where Wilma Grandez lives and she guided us up the surrounding mountains to visit 2 of her 4 groups of impoverished children.  This woman has an amazing love and has undertaken what no man would want to do -- reaching out to over 200 children providing meals, teachings and abundant love.

The two places we visited driving as high as the bus could go, then climbing up the side of dusty barren mountain to the rustic building she'd built for teaching and caring for the children.  What a privilege to see this labor of love in which she tirelessly pours into these kids!  We prayed for the children then passed out candy to their eager hands.  That night we visited Wilma's church where the women in our group shared.  After an invitation, about 9 responded to the call for salvation.  We felt truly blessed to be able to encourage what God was doing there.

Andahuaylas

From Lima our team which had the addition of Dennis and Lynnie & their team of 8, flew over the Andes mountains south to a small city in the high plains called Andahuaylas.  The airport was about 12,000 feet (no heat-brrr!) with the city at about 9000 feet so some of the team felt the effects of the altitude.  We were met in the airport by a welcoming committee which included full band and singing.  These mountain folks were so open and joyful that we had come. Three beautiful young ladies sang for us their unique 'huaynito' music all the 45 minute ride down the mountain from the airport.  The crusade was held each of 3 nights in the sports coliseum which was filled each night.  Over 1200 responded to the call for salvation as well as healing from deafness, tumors, headaches, and lameness.  The call for salvation was translated into Spanish and then Quechua (the local Indian dialect) spoken by over 20% of the city.  Even as the team walked around the town people would approach them asking for prayer and several were healed!  The pastor's daytime conference held in a church that seated 300 was overfilled and flowing out the door into the street.  So hungry were the people that many stood for hours and received a mighty outpouring of His Spirit, shaking and falling under His presence--truly awesome!  Before leaving the hotel the 2 receptionists asked for prayer for healing and both gave their hearts to the Lord as well as our cook who ran after us for prayer.  There was such an openness to receive from the Lord in this whole town.  Some of the team members visited an orphanage and prayed with 40 children and their workers to receive salvation.  One girl with thick glasses no longer needed them after receiving prayer. Others received a healing touch in their bodies and of course love and hugs from our team.  Even the last two mornings spent at the airport in Andahuaylas (the first one the plane never arrived after a 5 hour wait!) were not wasted as Lynnie led 5 to the Lord while we waited and a group of 6 taxi drivers were led in prayer of salvation.

Going back to sea level in Lima out of the cold, we were glad to have Gladys Enlow and Darwin Hilario join us for lunch at a nice seafood restaurant.  The owner (who owns 5 restaurants in Lima) later thanked us with tears in his eyes for what we were doing for his country.  Kathy and Lynnie enjoyed being able to spend some time with their mother.

Moyobamba

Nine of the team members returned to the U.S. on August 3rd while 11 of us flew to Tarapoto the following day, then took 2 hour taxi ride to Moyobamba.  We were told by our coordinator after arriving in the airport that because of concern for our safety with possibility of terrorist activity the pastors had assigned two young former army men to be our guardians during our stay to go with us and be our guides when needed.  The prayer time for 5 pastors of various churches and their families brought an opening to the presence of Holy Spirit and several tumors disappeared and healings have already taken place during pre-crusade meetings.

Expectation of the people in Moyobamba was high for what God was about to do.  Jim and Kathy were on two T.V. stations to do interviews, and Jim, Dennis, and Kevin on 3 radio stations.  The television station broadcast the crusades live each of 3 nights.  Our team handed out flyers and followed Jim down town and through the busy market as he announced with a megaphone and invited people to the healing crusade in the main plaza.  The expectation were high, and we were excited to see what God was about to do.

Our first night of the crusade there were about 2000 people in the town square.  Approximately 400-450 people came forward to accept Jesus as their savior.  There were some healings of tumors and other ailments. Jim shared a salvation message and invitation to the crowd gathered in the main plaza of the city.  At the end of the first night a man who had come to criticize came forward to tell how God had touched him, healed his deaf ear and partially blind eye!  The team members prayed for several deaf who were healed by God's power.  A woman came forward to testify of a tumor being dissolved!

When Jim announced that the final night there would be dancing and a celebration of God's presence some of the pastors became fearful of what might happen.  After a special meeting with them it was decided we would let the Holy Spirit rule!  What dancing and rejoicing that took place that night as people basked in His presence and felt Him touch and heal their bodies.  Jim spoke on a seeing a 'pool of Bethesda' opened up in the park where they could come and receive their healing.  Several team members saw a large white bird flying over the crowd several times during the worship.  One pastor testified of his healing of 2 hernias the previous day at pastor's conference after Jim shared a word of knowledge and prayed for him in very unconventional manner.  Another of the 5 coordinating pastors who had partial deafness had his full hearing restored in both ears!    The morning we left a 3rd pastor (who had trouble embracing the moving of Holy Spirit) came gratefully with bottles of honey as gifts to say that his sister had been healed of a breast tumor and to ask if we had more teachings on the gifts of the Spirit.

There was a definite deposit of the Holy Spirit left in this city and more fruit to continue coming. The television station that televised the crusades live had requests from 2 more stations to air the programs and there were interviews broadcast on 3 radio stations, so we believe there were thousands more touched via the airwaves.  During the 6 days in Moyobamba there were more than 1200 salvations, with a total of over 3600 commitments made during the 3 weeks in Peru.

We want to thank all of you for your prayers and support in bringing in this abundant harvest!
We want to give all the glory to God for the amazing things He did during the 3 weeks we were in Peru.  We thank you for continuing to support us with your prayers and being a part of this bountiful harvest! God is truly pouring out His Spirit in Peru--the time is ripe!!
